I am a fun and out going person. I enjoy working with people and caring for others. I have resently graduated for Camosun College for the Health Care assisten program. I reseaved an aword, were I was sulected out of 200 other students, for my compassion and caring, respect and dignity, fairness and justice, competence and excellence, responsibility and accountability, and hope. I enjoy working with children aswell as the elderly. Communication and organization � A.M. care for four residences, following their care plans and providing personal care. � Socializing and participating with residents (both cognitively alert and with dementia) � Assisting with meal setup at Luther Court � When I was in India none of the students or teachers spoke any English. I worked to find ways for them to understand me and what I was teaching. I became adept at using gestures and images to help them understand me. I also acquired a very small vocabulary of their language to help them better understand me. Working with others � During my practicum I worked closely with the residents, understanding their needs when they were not able to communicate them clearly. I remained composed while calming a resident when she became agitated. The staff and I worked together to meet the needs of each individual. I strongly believe in the provision of person centered care and strong team work. � At Inglewood retirement home I learned to interpret and address the needs of a group and how to incorporate every one even when they had different abilities � Working overseas in India for three months I worked with other volunteers to teach English and organized teaching programs for the other teacher so that when we left they would have some form of teaching ideas to build from. I also creatively used non-verbal communication skills in order to teach English. Resident care � Total care, washing, pericare, dressing and grooming, use of lifts and transfer devices, reporting, communicating with staff and residents. � One on one time with residents, some had dementia while others did not � Assisting with feeding
