Nanny in Ottawa, Ontario

Hi there, my name is Brittany and I am a second year student at Carleton University studying Public Affairs and Policy Management. My first language is English and I can speak beginner French and Brazilian Portuguese. I have worked as an Educational Assistant for two years at a private summer camp for children with special needs, and last summer I worked for the City of Ottawa in their Special Needs Department as an Integrated Support Worker in their summer camp programs. In this position, I was responsible for the care of two or three children (ages 4-7) with special needs ranging from Autism to Behavioural disorders. It was part of my job to keep children entertained throughout the day, adapting activities to their likes and interests, as well as maintaining their well-being at all times. My communication skills have greatly improved through this experience, as many of the children I worked with had limited to mild communication issues. Despite the fact that my area of study is sometimes decieving, I adore working with children and have been complimented on my classroom/activity management skills, my creativity, and the effort I am willing to put in to make sure my kids (the ones I am responsible for) are having fun. I have excellent problem solving skills, and have dealt with many, many tantrums - once I know the child better, the better I am able to de-escalate the situations.
