Nanny in Richmond, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
Hi there! My name is Erika and I am looking for a nanny-position with a fun and energetic family! Through my experiences working with children over the past 10 years (mixture of volunteer and paid), I have learned many unique and important lessons. I enjoy working with children so much that my career goal is to become a Speech-Language Pathologist with a special interest in children\'s clinical work. As of lately I have been babysitting a 2.5 year old and have absolutely loved it! My interests in linguistics (of which I hold an Honours B.A) and Speech-Language Pathology make babysitting a toddler fun and fascinating at the same time! I can offer support to both children and parents alike by creating an entertaining and safe atmosphere. Please message me if you\'re interested! Throughout my professional and/or volunteering experiences I have worked with children consistently over the past 10 years. My first job was teaching beginners dance to children anywhere from 3 years to 12 years old; an average class size was around 6 students at a time. This first experience taught me so many foundational skills of interpersonal relationships and how to really connect and engage with children. Following this, I was employed at the local community center where I taught Science and Cooking camps, again the ages ranged from around 4 years to 14 years old. I was given free reign over the lesson plans and curriculum, as well as snack times. This experience was an excellent learning opportunity in areas such as safe food preparation, planning educational activities and maintaining a safe yet fun atmosphere. A few years following this position, I was presented with the opportunity to volunteer internationally at an orphanage in Rabat, Morocco. I was in charge of assisting the nurses with a group 15 children between the ages of 3 years and 5 years old. My responsibilities were to bath and dress the children in the mornings, find an activity for the day and aid with feedings at lunch time. I was at this orphanage for 3 months, and as a person grew immensely within this time. I came home a changed with a new compassionate and gracious attitude towards everyone around me. This volunteer experience drove me to choose Speech-Language Pathology as a career path. I am now in the process of applying to graduate school for this discipline and because of this have been volunteering at a Speech-Language Pathology clinic for the past couple of months. I generally assist the SLP with her clinical group of 4 year olds. As a group we read books on listening with the whole body, play games and practice appropriate ways of interaction.
