Nanny in Ottawa, Ontario

Hello! My name is Mairead. It's a bit of a difficult name so some friends just call me M. Or it's pronounced My-red like my red car! :) I am a twenty year old, third year university student (completing a visual art and music degree) from Nova Scotia spending the next couple of months working as a nanny/ au pair and volunteering in Toronto! I have a couple of younger brothers, so I've been taking care of children for a long time! I've worked in daycares, camps and after school kids programs as well! I love to cook (especially Italian food!) and am happy to do cleaning and laundry around the house. I've had my driver's license for over a year and can help out with transportation, groceries, pick ups and drop offs! I am especially happy to help with any tutoring or homework; whether it be French, Maths, Piano practise, Art, English or anything! Sincerely, Mairead Babysitting: I started babysitting from a very young age; starting with my own two younger brothers from infancy to adolescence. I consistently babysat for friends of our family starting at age 13 when I obtained my First Aid and CPR certificates. I cared for families for multiple days at a time (overnight on occasion), for multiple children, and for children aged 4 months to 14 years old. Child Care through Volunteering and Extracurricular Activities: Preschool and Daycare Volunteer: From the age of 12 to 15 I volunteered at two daycares in my community. Little Wonders is a daycare for younger children, specializing in infant and toddler care. With some exceptions, most children were cared for until the age of 3. Hugs and Tugs, its partner preschool, had a minimum age requirement of 3 and an age cap of 10 years old. My duties and responsibilities differed slightly at both establishments. However, in general I saw to the overall safety and wellbeing of the children at all times, helped prepare meals, organized sports and play activities throughout the day, supervised recesses, and was part of the end of day clean up/ housekeeping team. What I was held responsible for most, however, was the organization and administration of educational/ school preparation activities. I coordinated reading and story times, homework circles by grade, math and spelling games and language, music and art workshops. Dance, Drama and Vocal Instructor at the Old Barns Youth Drama Club: Instructed and mobilized youth aged 5 to 18 in bi-annual plays and musicals put on in our community. I spent every Sunday morning with them from June 2006 to 2009. As an instructor, I was responsible for teaching and encouraging members to learn their material, their care and well being in practice, at school, on field trips, and in transportation to and from venues. President, Section Leader and Member of the First Baptist Girls' Choir September 2005 to June 2011: FBGC is an internationally renowned choir established 28 years ago in Truro Nova Scotia. I was a member for 7 years starting at the age of 11. The girls' choir auditions members aged 11 to 18. At the age of 16, I became the first sopranos section leader, and was responsible for ensuring that all members knew their music. As president, this responsibility extended to the entire choir. I held after-practise tutorials, gave at-home lessons, organized and led all fundraisers, charity concerts, workshops and socials. One of my duties as president was to serve as chaperone on tours and concert series to Ottawa, Quebec and New York for 2-3 weeks at a time as well.
