I'm an
Individual
After graduating from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a Diploma in Park Operations and Outdoor Recreation (2005) and while achieving my BSc Lakehead University (2012), I have developed extensive experience working with children/youth in both educational and recreational settings. After graduating from Lakehead University I was given the opportunity to teach in both Japan and Thailand for a couple months. I works with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 18. This was a very unique experience which I have just returned to Thunder Bay from. For four years I worked at the City of Thunder Bay with multicultural children and youth (aged 5-17) from across the city. This position enabled me to create and facilitate quality programming to these children through day camps and afterschool programs. Within the City of Thunder Bay, I have also worked as a personal support worker helping individuals with special needs to participate in program activities. This has allowed me to focus on developing the skills needed to adapt environments to create inclusive and optimal learning conditions. My work with the City of Thunder Bay has challenged and inspired me to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. Before moving to Thunder Bay, to attend university, I was given the opportunity to live in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada where I was employed as the Physical Activities Coordinator. This position was applied within the Yellowknife Catholic School Board to help supplement additional physical activity within the school day. I developed and implemented a brand new pilot program which required me to work within classrooms teaching both educators and children. During classroom visits I was also responsible for demonstrating activities that could be used in classrooms, gym, and recess breaks. Also while in Yellowknife, I was given the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher in both elementary and secondary schools within the public school board (YK1). This teaching position allowed me the opportunity to follow lesson plans, teach multiple subjects and work with a diverse group of students. Being that Yellowknife is primarily Aboriginal lineage I was able to work closely with ESL students.
