I come from a very large family and have been blessed with many younger cousins who I spend a lot of time caring for. As a teacher, I deeply care for the well-being of all youth. I enjoy spending time with youth because it brings me happiness, and I truly believe that they have many things to teach us as well. I am currently an Ontario Certified Teacher, working as a secondary occasional teacher for Peel and Halton District School Boards. Last year, I taught as a full-time Grade 9 classroom teacher on a remote, fly-in First Nation reserve with at risk youth. I instructed Grade 9 Science, Geography, and Individual and Family Living. In addition to regular classroom duties, I participated in the after-school program, which focused on Native culture, healthy eating, and physical education. The after-school program consisted of students of all ages (5-15 years old). I tutored for a company called Tutor Doctor. My tutees included three Grade 11 Math students and one Grade 9 student. During our weekly 1-hour sessions, I worked one-on-one with the students to teach, review, and assess essential math concepts from the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum. I worked at Kumon Math and Reading Centre for 3 years, where I assessed math and literacy skills of groups of students aged 6-16 years old. My duties also included marking and recording assigned worksheets, assessing oral reading abilities, and assisting students with their corrections. I have worked as a summer camp counsellor for 2 summers at the Albion Boys and Girls Club. As part of my duties, I planned and implemented camp activities for diverse groups of students aged 8-12 years old. I attended all trips and participated in all camp activities, while supervising and ensuring the safety of all campers.
