Nanny in Ottawa, Ontario

Hello! I am a former preschool teacher, with over ten years of experience working with children of all ages. I've worked as a full-time nanny, a tutor, and a part time babysitter. I am looking to get back into nannying because I miss the one-on-one interactions that are not possible working in a preschool setting. I live in Westboro. I consider the opportunity to work with children as an absolutely sacred privilege and am committed to providing the children under my care with safety, security, good health, confidence, and ample opportunities for growth. During my time working with children, I learned many skills needed to provide a positive, fulfilling, and nurturing environment for the children in my care. The most basic thing I needed to provide the children with is safety. I had constant awareness of the environment and the children, and I redirected the children when necessary. I was careful to limit dangerous situations and objects in the children’s environment while helping to instill in them safety skills of their own and make them aware of potential safety hazards. Being a teacher for a mixed age group of children required me to be able to engage several children at once, knowing that they all had potentially very different needs. I used my creative planning skills to come up with lesson plans, songs, and activities that allowed them to be engaged at school. When outdoor play was not possible, I came up with indoor games that were equally enjoyable and physically engaging. Superb communication skills were essential to possess as a lead teacher. Knowing how to communicate on a level appropriate to the children was needed in order to explain complex subjects in an understandable manner. I also feel that having a strong relationship with the parents is almost equally as important. I have always been able to communicate progress and concerns with the parents in order to work together to create the healthiest environment for the children as possible. I have always made sure to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of the parents in order to keep them happy with me and my work.
