It is my absolute pleasure to write this letter of reference for Morgan Sanguine. I have had the privilege of knowing Morgan Sanguine for five years; I first met Morgan when she volunteered at Mitchell Hepburn Public School in our Kindergarten program and in a number of junior classes. Whether she was reading with our youngest learners, or sharing about her experiences volunteering in Africa, Morgan’s enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and education shone through. When she was hired by the Thames Valley District School Board, I supervised Morgan in her role as an Occasional Early Childhood Educator. Morgan is reliable, creative and a team player. She would often work with some of our most challenging early learners, and her calm and nurturing approach always had them asking when Miss Morgan would be back. She truly always sees the best in children, and meets them where they are. Whether working in a volunteer or paid position, Morgan was an effective communicator and a true team player. On a number of occasions, I witnessed her having crucial conversations with other educators and even with parents. She was always respectful when she did, highlighting strengths of the student she was conversing about before sharing any challenges. On one particular occasion, Morgan was working with a year one Kindergarten student who would often run from, or attempt to ‘trash’ the room. Morgan focused on the child’s ‘big feelings’ first, getting to the root of the issue while remaining firm and fair with the child. She was able to talk him through a period of dysregulation and bring him back to the class to apologize for behaviours and continue his day successfully. When working with other educators, Morgan is confident in her own knowledge and understanding of both child development and the Ontario Kindergarten curriculum to gently question others about their approach to a play based kindergarten program. While working as an occasional ECE one day, Morgan was brave enough to bring concerns about a Kindergarten program to our administrative team so we could effectively address the gaps in learning that were evident in the room. That is not an easy task for someone in an occasional position, and I commend Morgan for her dedication to quality education. She was always well respected within our school community, and sought after as an occasional ECE by both administration and staff. Morgan has incredible patience and a clear understanding of social-emotional well being and development. Her caring nature makes her a terrific candidate to work with any child, but her willingness to always meet a child where he/she is makes her especially well suited to working with children with special needs, whether they are physical, educational or emotional needs. I would happily welcome an opportunity to have Morgan on my staff; she is a quiet leader, leading by example by being a hard working, compassionate educator who is dedicated to everyone on her team – students, staff, families and administration.
