I care both infants or child and elderly clients/patients: As Pediatric Nurse: o Identify changes in a child’s signs and symptoms and intervene in emergent situations o Maintain privacy and confidentiality in nurse/child relationships o Differentiate between normal and abnormal physical findings o Serve as a child advocate o. Participate in activities to manage a child’s pain o Analyze situations to anticipate pathophysiological problems and detect changes in status o Administer medication using age-appropriate guidelines o Determine a child’s needs related to pain management o Evaluate a child for signs and symptoms of abuse o Provide supportive care to dying children o Other frequent activities include involving the child and family in the plan of care, determining the child’s needs based on analysis of symptoms, and determining a child’s needs related to growth and development As Adult or Geriatric Nurse: o Observe and assess patients o Effect comprehensive nursing care plans for patients o Administer treatments and medications o Monitor and report symptoms and changes in patient status o Collaborate with medical team on patient status o Maintain complete and accurate patient records o Prepare patients and assist with patient examinations and therapies o Assist with diagnostic tests and interpret results o Modify treatment plans where indicated o Advise patients on health maintenance and preventative medicine o Provide educational, emotional and psychological support to patients and family members o Maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with healthcare procedures and regulations o Adhere to infection-control protocols o Follow medication administration and storage procedures and regulations o Monitor and co-ordinate maintenance of equipment operation and inventory o Check and maintain nursing supplies inventory
