Nanny in Vancouver, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
Dear families, I'm an Early Childhood Educator and Career Nanny that uses a pedagogical approach to childcare, inspired by Reggio-Emilia, Waldorf, and Montessori philosophies. In my values-based approach, I prioritize the early developmental stages of your child by encouraging their full autonomy and creative self-expression by providing engaging, stimulating, and sensory-rich experiences through extensive opportunities for open-ended, child-led play. To support the cognitive, social, and physical early developmental stages in children, I believe we need to immerse them in nature-based, outdoor environments, with expansive time for open exploration. This is why in my approach to early childcare, I prioritize (at the minimum) 30 minutes of uninterrupted, child-led outdoor play, rain or shine. I believe that children are kinaesthetic learners by nature and by providing these opportunities, we aid them in their ability to build an authentic relationship between the world and themselves. To support the cognitive, social, physical, linguistic, and emotional early developmental stages in children, I believe we need to expose them to a variety of creative expressions and invite them to be apart of our "everyday" tasks—music, cooking, sorting laundry, and storytelling are just a few to name. This is why I sing every day with the children in my care or invite them to join me in the kitchen to "help" me with the meals (sometimes this "help" makes the prep time take longer—but the slowing down and being mindful of the process is all part of the joy). I actively encourage each "boring, mundane" task to be turned into an opportunity for play. In my childcare approach, I focus on crafting and curating open-ended, play-based activities using sensory-rich materials so that children can further deepen their learning through kinaesthetic interaction. I am attentive and carefully observant of each child's interests and desires, and I do this by following their lead, engaging with them genuinely, and being in the present moment with them—sharing their worldview and showing them appreciation for it, so that they develop a deep understanding and confidence of their inherent, valuable self-worth and belonging in the world. I also believe in messy play! This doesn’t mean I don’t prioritize cleanliness, however. After messy activities and time spent outdoors, I ensure thorough washing up, especially before and after meals and nap times. I always leave spaces in the home cleaner than found, and am happy to support with errands and chores, so long as it does not disrupt my time with the children (so ideally, during nap times!). Furthermore, I have a BC Class 5 Drivers License and several years of experience driving family owned vehicles, have several years of certification in Emergency Childcare CPR & First Aid Level B Infant & Toddler, am certified by The Centre for Mindful Self-Compassion, and have a valid and up-to-date Criminal Record Check. If you are a family who is queer-friendly, disciplined in disease and illness prevention strategies such as mask-wearing in public spaces, and are looking to hire an experienced, warm, fun-loving, and caring nanny immediately, I welcome you to reach out. My goal is to start a nanny share with two families looking for long-term care, with similar aged infant and/or toddler aged children but am happy to begin single care with a family to start, if preferred. Preferably in East Vancouver but am open to commuting anywhere within Vancouver as far west as UBC and as far east as Hastings-Sunrise. Please also note that my hourly rate is dependent on the amount of children in care, the age of the child and/or children, and whether or not a nanny share is in place. Please inquire further as the rate posted above is just the starting rate for a single child in a nanny share. For a nanny share, starting rate is $19/hour. Single child care starts at $30/hour. Let's set up a time to meet one another over a video-call and see if we make a good fit! I look forward to hearing from you soon. With care, Ash (Becca)

Becca is attentive and nurturing. She has worked hard to build a relationship with our daughter m. She has helped with her language and social cues. Our daughter has bonded well and enjoys their time together.

Becca provided thoughtful and caring support to our toddler, first independently and then alongside another toddler. Becca is fantastic at providing emotionally connected care and using a child-led development approach that helped our daughter learn a number of skills over our time working with Becca. They are clearly made for a career working with and educating children. Becca was kind, thoughtful, and practical, and our family misses their presence!

Becca is lovely. I highly recommend hiring them. They were calm, attentive, loving, playful, and encouraging. Becca quickly developed a bond with our daughter, noticed and encouraged her interests, helped her to build a friendship with with the other toddler in the nanny share, and identified areas for further development that helped build our daughter's self confidence. When we transitioned to daycare, our daughter was notably better prepared for the transition and Becca played a big role in that change.

Becca cared for our two year old daughter in a nanny share arrangement with another family from July to September 2024. We feel so lucky to have found Becca, and cannot speak highly enough of them. Our daughter loved her time with Becca, and she developed significantly during this time due to the engaging and creative activities and outings. Becca fostered a close relationship between the children, and it was a joy to see them exploring new things, learning, and having fun together. Becca prioritized our daughter's safety at all times. Becca's communication was exceptional, and I appreciated the real time photo updates as well as the detailed recap at the end of the day. I have no hesitation recommending Becca to anyone looking for kind and capable caregiver.

Becca is an amazing nanny. Caring, knowledgeable, kind. Becca taught us how to be better parents and our child thrived in their care. Becca has endless patience and incredible emotional intelligence to deal with toddlers. You really couldn’t find a more empathetic, proactive, and helpful nanny.
