Nanny in Vancouver, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
I am a caring, energetic and fun British nanny currently seeking a part time live-out position. At the moment I work as a nanny to a wonderful family with a toddler and 5 month old baby on weekdays so I am looking for an evening and/or weekend position to supplement my current job. Before commencing the part time role with my current family in January, I worked with a lovely family with newborn twins for a fixed term of 4 months. My child care experience, prior to my recent nannying jobs, was largely gained through my Education Studies degree. My four year BA (Hons) degree course involved five teaching placements in kindergartens, elementary schools and middle schools, including some whole-class teaching, group work and supporting children with special needs one-to-one. In addition to the experience that I have gained through my degree course, I was also employed by a kindergarten, one summer, where I worked with 1 to 2 year olds in addition to some babysitting experience with 2 to 6 year olds. My extensive experience working with children, alongside an abundance of knowledge on effective educational practice, has developed my ability to engage and motivate children by maintaining a positive, can-do attitude, focusing on praising and rewarding children for their achievements. As part of my degree course, and during my time working at Woodland s Nursery, I was required to plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons and, as a result, I am aware of the kinds of activities that children of different ages find enjoyable while, at the same time, developing their talents. My behavior management skills have also been developed by these experiences as I have learned that being consistent and modeling desirable behavior yourself is immensely important in handling and avoiding challenging situations. In addition to my skills in caring for and educating children, I am house-proud and, throughout my time working in bars and restaurants to fund my time at university, was required to keep the front-of-house immaculate. I am happy to put these house-keeping skills into practice in conjunction with caring for children, if required. I am passionate about working with children and am easy to get along with as I am hard working and very personable. It is for these reasons that I believe that I would be an asset to any family. I am eager to continue my career as a nanny and look forward to meeting you and your family. I began my current position, as a part time nanny to a wonderful family with a 2 year old and a 5 month old, this January. My primary role is to care for and entertain the children independently while the parents are at work. This includes engaging with the toddler in a range of activities such as trips to the park, playing with his toys, dancing, singing and reading, all whilst wearing the baby in a baby carrier! I also prepare lunch for the toddler and often prep family meals as I am a keen cook. My duties also include feeding and changing the baby as well as putting her to sleep using the Sleep Sense technique. My favorite part of the job, however, is encouraging the children to develop communication and physical skills. With the baby, this means engaging her in play, having pretend conversations with her and tummy time, which helps to develop her neck muscles and helps her learn to crawl. With the toddler, this means having conversations about topics of interest, encouraging him to learn numbers, letters and vocabulary and setting boundaries for appropriate behavior whilst knowing when to pick your battles. Before working in my current job, I completed a 4 month fixed term position working with a family with newborn twins. My primary role was to look after the babies independently while the parents slept or ran errands. Another aspect of this role was cleaning and tidying the house, washing clothes and taking the dog for walks. I loved this role and was sad to leave as I developed such a good relationship with the family but I was able to move on to my equally lovely current family and am excited to start a role with another family so that I can finally work as a full time nanny. My four year degree course involved five teaching placements in kindergartens, elementary schools and middle schools, including some whole-class teaching, group work and supporting children with special needs one-to-one. I also completed a placement in a youth club with young people ages 13 - 19, educating and empowering young people to be safe and successful in all aspects of their lives. In addition to the experience that I have gained through my degree course, I was also employed by a kindergarten, one summer, where I worked with 1 – 2 year olds which involved engaging the children in exploratory indoor and outdoor play, feeding the babies, supervising nap time and changing diapers. As a teenager, I also worked as a babysitter for 2 – 6 year olds following the completion of a babysitting course which equipped me with some first aid skills.
