Dear Family, As I'm sure you've already read, I have always taken a keen interest in childcare and have a natural instinct towards it. I have almost 15 years experience with occasional childcare including a wide range of children, from newborns to 12 years old. I understand the importance of developing skills throughout the day and always having an opportunity to both teach and learn something new. I have also taken a keen interest in learning about pregnancy and newborns and I have been researching every chance I get (books, DVDs, online resources, etc). I plan to become a doula or midwife one day, which proves my commitment to childcare and the importance of bringing a baby into the world with as positive a birthing experience as possible. I feel that it is extremely important to create an open, honest, trusting relationship with both parents and children and to treat one another as family. Regarding obedience, I generally remain firm with children in order to maintain a respectful and manageable environment. I understand the importance of teaching consequence and believe children need to learn that working hard and helping others will have a positive impact. Growing up, I was often the go-to babysitter in my area and was in especially high demand during the summer months. I have had experience with a wide range of children, from newborns to those 12 years old, boys and girls. When I was only 12, I began doing respite work (looking after an individual with special needs) and did so for about 10 years. I now consider that family my second family. I have always developed a meaningful relationship with those I help. Nothing is more important than to feel comfortable together and to trust each other. When my sister gave birth to the first grandchild of the family, I took it upon myself to provide extra care for her and her new baby (multiple times a week). She light-heartedly introduced me to others as her sister and postpartum doula, which was not far from the truth! Looking after babies is an absolute pleasure of min (dare I say my favourite!).
