My name is Deirdre and I love knowing that by just sharing my passion of working with children and educating them, I can make a difference in many lives around me. I am a recent graduate of a Concurrent Education program with a BA (Honours) in Integrated Studies and a Bachelor of Education with a teachable in Dramatic Arts. Having a background in education ensures that many of my care-taking techniques include elements of teaching in them. For example, enforcing proper manners, asking thought provoking questions, and encouraging an inquiry based and exploration driven environment. This is also a benefit for any family with school aged children who are in need of a little extra academic support during the school year. Don\'t get me wrong though, I am not always education and seriousness. Having a love of the arts too, I am the first one to volunteer to get my hands dirty when trying something new or just wanting to have a little fun. When it comes to bonding with children, I don\'t mind being a little goofy or dramatic, as long as I am meeting the needs of everyone around. Bachelor of Education- Grade 4 class of 24 students, Grade 7 class of 30 students Camp Counsellor experience - Students with autism and behavioural exceptionalities (age 2-6)- helped with social interactions (sharing, turn taking, cooperative play, etc.), meal times, and independent work skills. - Students with AD/HD and learning disabilities associated with literacy (age 6-12)- facilitated recreational activities that encouraged and developed social skills (turn taking, team player, etc.), communication skills (asking for the ball, explaining rules, etc.), and emotional awareness ("I feel" statements, expressing emotions accurately, etc.). Supported students in developing their literacy through multiple activities and games. Other responsibilities included conflict resolution, meal time supervision, and pool time supervision. - One-on-one counsellor for student with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)- age 10. Assisted with social skills development, listening skills, and team work. Numerous babysitting experiences- including but not limited to: three nieces (age 3, 4, and 11), two girls (age 4 and 6), 4 boys (age 3, 5, 7, 10), two girls (age 7 and 10), etc.
