Nanny in Victoria, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
Hello :). I am Melissa Miller (24, female) looking to make some extra income in nannying and gain experience. I moved to the Island from Nelson a few months ago, and am originally from Thunder Bay. I am an Out of School Care Leader, working with kids ages 4-11. I studied Fine Arts for my undergrad, went onto a full-time 2 yr post-grad study, and now a recently graduated Professional Art Therapist. Additionally, I have worked therapeutically and recreationally with children and youth including those with mental health issues, developmental differing abilities, behavioural difficulties, and grief and loss in art therapy, summer camp, babysitting, as a caregiver, and arts programmer. Having studied many approaches to working with children, I believe in a developmental, neuroscience-backed, gentle, yet firm style. The repercussions to negative behaviour must be logical, meet their developmental (emotional development) understandings while finding the most agreeable outcome for all. If you’re familiar with Daniel Siegel, I find his approach useful and in line with my beliefs for my work with kids. Other things you might be interested in: -Availability: I work typically (and not available) Mon-Fri 7:30-9 and 2:30-5:30, and pick up shifts with another casual job here and there -I live in the Oak Bay area, so this area would be preferred -Without a car, but have my Class 5 and a bus pass – I have been considering getting a vehicle if employment necessitates it -Advanced clinical hours with children in art therapy, (140 hours of direct client contact time; Level 1 training in Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy; some training in movement, sand-tray, play and other expressive therapies; art therapy services could be discussed) -Recently renewed First Aid, clear TB Skin test, clean criminal record -I love learning, teaching/sharing, reading, art-making, games, hiking, yoga, meditation, healthful food/cooking, and writing/poetry -Overnight work could be discussed, as well -Light cleaning is a given, in my books -No experience with children under 4, but open to it -Depending on number of children, I charge $15/hr (but am open to discussions on wage) I look forward to discussing an arrangement that works for everyone involved! Warm regards.
