Nanny in Markham, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
Hello, My name is Nina Williams, and I am a 21-year-old Psychology student at McMaster University. After achieving my Bachelors of Psychology, I plan to return to school for an additional year to complete a Masters degree in Social work, then work towards completing a Ph.D. in Psychology. I am very passionate when learning about children and youth, regarding the importance of their developmental years. Through one's childhood and early adulthood, morals and values are instilled, meaning, these principles and ethics will be internalized and lived by every day. I believe that it is critical for children to have additional positive role models in their life they can trust. For the past five years, I have been working with youth and adults of all ages. I worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA of Oakville for three years and attained phenomenal water safety skills and both emergency and standard first aid. Some tasks I was responsible for performing was: Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Experience: • Maintaining continuous surveillance of swimmers in the pools • Spot any hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents • Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents • Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations • Teach swimming techniques and safety education to new swimmers. While working as a lifeguard and swim instructor, I got the privilege to work with various age groups, ranging from 12 months to 60 years. I love fostering new relationships and making a change in peoples lives in any ways that I can. Many parents specifically requested me to teach their children and provide continuous private swimming lessons at their homes. Most recently, for the past three years, I have worked as an Integration Counselor at the YMCA of Oakville. This job requires working one-on-one with a child who has special needs and ensuring they are integrated into the camp community. This position has completely changed me as a person and has given me the opportunity to change so many amazing children’s lives, in addition to them changing mine. This job require very intensive training and included critical tasks, such as: Integration Counseling Experience: • Ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for the child in their care. • Administer medications as authorized by parent; administer first aid, as required. • Recognize the uniqueness and interests of all child and youth and assist them to successfully achieve their goals at camp. • Complete pre-camp phone calls and submit pre-camp tracking sheets on a weekly basis. • Ensure ongoing communication with families to provide updates and to problem solve any challenges • Participate with the children in a positive and supportive manner, taking into consideration each participant's uniqueness.. Personal Highlights: • People person • Adaptable caregiver • Mindful and understanding of children’s needs • Organized • Effective leader and mentor • Assistance with schoolwork and projects • Punctual • Trustworthy Credentials • Current standard first aid • Current emergency first aid • NLS – National Lifeguard Service
