While I don't have children of my own, I have been Auntie and God-mother to many kids. One of "my kids" just got married last summer! I consider myself to be a mother's helper, I'm just wired that way. My network of friends can attest to that. When I'm with children, they get all of me. I invest in them and am present and attentive to their needs. I love to laugh and believe that a child's mind is a wonderful place for adventure and discovery. I believe children need love and guidance to grow into healthy and productive adults. The phrase that comes to mind is "raise them in the way they should go". I'm a believer of good manners as well as respect for self and others. I would consider myself firm yet fair. We are here to love, guide and teach the adults of tomorrow. Children are a precious gift and need to laugh often, be goofy, protected and nurtured. I believe that children are precious and have been entrusted to our care. They are young for such a short time and it is our responsibility to help them grow into productive and well balanced adults. To know how to laugh and be free and also know how to handle the not so pleasant parts of life. Learning how to handle situations is a life lesson that is invaluable. Being there as a toddler climbs onto the couch the first or fiftieth time shows them they can DO IT! and builds self confidence and courage. Teaching them how to put their shoes on all by themselves and watching that light go on as they get it is amazing. There are milestones every day and I'm so proud and filled with joy to be a part of that. Teaching children how to be strong and take care of themselves, how to ask for help or accept comfort, to play on their own and with others, are building blocks for a healthy and happy child. It's an awesome privilege! I cared for 2 young boys, ages 4 & 6yrs old. I took them to and from schools and other activities (swimming, outdoor activities, play dates, etc). We would go regularly to the library, play games, go to the park. I bathed and prepared the kids for bed including story time when required. Light housework (dishes, tidy play areas, etc). Homework assistance/supervision. Healthy snacks and some meal preparation.
