Nanny in Langley, British Columbia

I have known Melody for 9 years. She was my sister's tenant, but quickly became a close friend of my sisters who ended up passing away last year from cancer. My sister regularly told me how Melody was always there for her - they would go on walks and have long talks, especially when my sister wasn't working during chemo. My sister always counted on her and spoke very highly of her. Shortly after my sister became friends with Melody I met her. She stood out as a very caring, empathetic, knowledgeable and full of life lady! My sister always told me that if I ever needed anyone to look after my baby that I should ask her. She raved about how good she was with kids and how knowledgeable she was (which speaks volumes as my sister was an amazing elementary school teacher). Initially, I lived downtown so it was a long drive to ask Mel to look after my son, but as soon as I moved to Langley, she was the first person she asked, and she accepted! I was so grateful! She has since been looking after my son since I moved to Langley in May 2020. She quickly became part of my little family. Being a single mom of a 1.5 year old (my first child), and dealing with going through a separation, Melody has become someone I count on. Not only to look after my son but to give me tips on how to deal with certain toddler behaviors. She is very knowledgeable, and I gain so much information from a 5 minute conversation as I could from reading 5 books...which is such a perk as I don't have time to read being a single mom and PhD student. When my son is with her, I know I have nothing to worry about. She is so attentive and knows exactly how to look after a toddler. I often work from home while she is child minding and I can hear them all day, laughing and having so much fun. They play inside, outside, reading, coloring, going for walks, being silly, watching construction vehicles...she really has had to be creative as there wasn't much to do initially outside of the home during the pandemic. She really amazes me with all the energy she has. She is literally playing all day with my son, and he is non-stop! She also helps me with minor chores around the house such as folding laundry and cleaning the kitchen. I know she is in her 70's which would distract most people from hiring her, but she is so full of energy and carries with her so much knowledge and expertise that this should not be a deterrent. I am very picky with whom I trust with my son and I definitely trust Mel! My son also loves her and always asks "where is Mel?" He adores her. I am happy to answer any questions upon request.
