This is a special opportunity to offer a mix of caregiving and respite support to a warm and caring family in the Riverbend area. We have two beautiful children, and are looking for a passionate and encouraging helper as we facilitate family and community life. Our 5 year old daughter has medical and developmental disabilities, and our 3 year old son is typically developing. In our search, these qualities are important to us: self-starter, enthusiastic, dedicated, and able to learn. The candidate must have keen observation skills, and an abiding interest in establishing rapport and relationship with a non-verbal child. Our helpers become a stable and committed part of our family - we need somebody who is flexible, resourceful, and willing to support our family in the areas of development and growth, daily living routines, play, community inclusion, and at times, monitoring for seizures and health status. Our family is absolutely committed to designing and offering a meaningful and engaging childhood for our children, and we know this takes intention, responsibility, creative thinking, and a commitment to celebrating and honouring all abilities and potential. Specific duties and responsibilities will include: - Assistance with general homemaking activities (e.g., cooking, cleaning, errands) - Assistance with personal care activities (e.g., feeding, diapering, dressing, bedtime) - Designing and facilitating meaningful indoor and outdoor play - Seizure and health status monitoring - Respite caregiving, or childcare - Assistance with attending medical or therapy appointments At this time, we are recruiting for someone who can commit to approx. 25 hrs per week, with a preference for consistent weekday shifts with occasional weekend shifts. Rate of pay is approximately $18.80 per hour, commensurate to education and experience. Our ideal candidate is a student enrolled in or graduated from any of the helping professions (e.g., nursing, therapies, early education, teaching) with 2 years of experience in the field. Likewise, someone with previous experience with caregiving, disabilities, or healthcare is an asset. Criminal record and vulnerable sector background checks will be required.
