The Texting Nanny

Playing with children all day with no adult interaction can be challenging for any adult.  But, allowing texting and the use of social media during the day can become an issue.  The nanny may state that she will only do it when the children are sleeping but we know that other times will gradually sneak in. Remembering that the nanny is an employee, texting and other personal time during working should be discussed at the beginning of employment.  I personally think the answer is simple: the nanny is working and therefore the focus should be on the children and her job within the home. Emergency texts should be allowed of course but regular texting with friends and family should be strongly discouraged.

If your nanny is in need of adult contact, we recommend connecting her to other nannies in the neighbourhood or finding playground for her to attend.
