Hello, my name is Aurora Knaut. Having just graduated (with a degree in Child Studies focusing in Youth Care Counselling) from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta I am now moving to Montreal to pursue my passion in childcare and storytelling. My experiences range from all age groups of children. I have been a pre-school teacher, lunch-lady, before and after school worker and worked with high needs children in a therapeutic group home for a company called Hull Services. In my degree I worked in child minding and leadership programs at the YMCA, aided teachers and behaviour specialists for children struggling with internalised mental health considerations at a high-school and worked in a community on youth engagement with the United Way of Calgary. Finally, while in school I volunteered at the Calgary Distress Centre (Crisis Line) as well as at Mosaic (a queer youth group that met weekly). All these experiences have made me see child development as diverse, engaging and creative with no right answers. I have learned to establish caring and therapeutic relationships with children (including those who were not interested in getting to know me). As a storyteller I have also found ways to engage with youth through stories and games that allow them to learn new personal and emotional understandings to help them navigate their own development. Creativity has always been my key passion in life and I try to allow children to sculpt their own development path while I create a healthy and safe means of supporting them.
