Nanny in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I'm an
Individual
Dear families, My name is Kayla Winchester-Hicks & I have a passion for taking care of children. Being the eldest of five children my experience in child care started at a tender age. Taking on the extra responsibilities of helping my siblings develop in a very busy household, I learned to cook, clean, bake, and change diapers. I further improved my skills acting as a babysitter to my extended family, and most recently helped to raise my best friends’ child; Brynleigh. Helping to raise Brynleigh during the first 2.5 years of her life has shown me the beauty of watching a child grow before your very eyes. From her first learning to lift her head on her own, to her first attempts of being mobile, to her first words, and to her first endeavours with potty training, I’ve cherished each moment, it was a joy to be a part of. My belief is that with support, healthy developmental activities, and a positive role model any child has the ability to flourish. My belief is that the primary responsibilities of a Nanny should be to promote healthy development in a safe environment, giving the child(ren) ample space to grow. I believe that there is also a secondary responsibility that often is forgotten. It is to promote personal discovery of the child, finding what natural abilities and talents they have, and fostering the budding ambitions they desire. It is through these extra activities that makes it easier for the child to find what makes them happy in life. The things that make me happy in life are spending quality time with my friends playing board games, or playing softball. I also have a special place in my heart for my fur babies. I have a wonderful little dog named Parker, a loving cat named Olivia, and two peppy chinchillas named Pip and Tink. I love taking Parker for walks on bright days, and watching Disney movies with Olivia on stormy nights. The thing I like to do the best though, is to be outside going on little adventures. My style of childcare is that of being active. Whether that be actively reading, actively playing, or actively cooking, cleaning, or preparing for the next activity. I personally don’t advocate a lot of T.V. time, it seems like a wasted moment of healthy development. It is my goal to take the child(ren) of the family I work with outside as much as possible. Some of my best memories of my childhood come from when I had the ability to run, jump, create, and imagine. It is through the vast creativity of a child that true fairy tales exist. Thank-you for reading over my introduction! Please feel free to take a moment and send me a message if you think your family and I may be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you and to interview for the position.
