ABOUT US We are a loving and active family, with three incredible kids aged 10 years, nearly 5 years, and 1 1/2. We live centrally in West Hillhurst, near Kensington district. Our youngest son is a joyful, content, curious kiddo. He is incredibly easy to look after provided you're quick on the snacks and can chase him down the street! Our inquisitive and delightful daughter is starting kindergarten in September and will be in full day programming 8:30-3:30 Mon-Thurs, half days Friday. School is near to where we live. Our eldest attends school full-time, at a specialized school for children with special needs. He is silly, super social, and loves everyone. He has both a physical and intellectual disability and requires various therapeutic supports to aid in his daily living. He is approximately 60 lbs and requires one person to assist him with transfers in and out of his wheelchair and around the house. You must have the ability to lift him. Due to his diagnoses, he is considered higher risk for covid complications so we are very cautious about potential covid exposure. Both parents are currently working from home but this will likely change over the course of the next few months. WHO WE NEED We are looking to hire a full-time caregiver for Monday through Thursday. Exact hours will be discussed but likely 7am-4:30pm. We will also consider splitting the hours into two part-time positions, if necessary. Duties will include feeding children breakfast and getting them ready for school. During the day, it is mostly caring for our youngest child, taking him out for activities as appropriate, and light housekeeping. May also be picking up our daughter from school and/or meeting eldest son's bus. May be some after school appointments for our eldest that are out of the house and he will require transport for. Caregiver must be trustworthy, caring, and reliable. We hire people who actively engage with our children and support all of them in their unique developmental needs. We would like someone who has experience with children with special needs. We value open and honest communication and collaborative approaches to care. You have to be both capable of following directions and able to think independently to come up with creative and fun activities, while ensuring our children’s safety and well-being. We require valid vulnerable sector checks, driver’s license, and good driver’s abstract. CPR and first aid training also highly recommended and if you do not already have them, we will support you in getting the required training. Positions are payrolled with deductions taken, compliance with Alberta labour laws for in-home childcare ensured. Please send me a message and we'll go from there.
