Warm and friendly family in Steveston BC seeking a nanny with live-out availability. This special person will assist with the daily care our disabled daughter with complex care needs in the evenings and/or on weekends. Our daughter is socially appropriate but challenged at times by pain and poor sleep. Assistance is needed in all areas of care ie: feeding, toileting, dressing, admin of meds. Our ideal candidate will have the usual requirements – experience, reliability and a great attitude – but also a creative knack for helping our daughter express herself through art! You are part Educational Assistant and part nurse. Our daughter is engaging and wants to learn, grow and most importantly have fun! Knowledge & Abilities sought: • Basic knowledge of client-centered care • Knowledge and experience caring for persons with complex care needs such as seizures, allergies, global developmental delays. • Comfortable and competent in the administration of medications via g-tube and epi-pen. • Ability to review and apply careplans and related safety procedures • Knowledge and ability to operate mechanical lifts and follow safe work procedures • Demonstrates correct use of body-mechanics and knowledge of injury prevention for self and client • Communicates effectively and demonstrates proficiency in verbal, nonverbal, and written skills through a variety of communication methods • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. • Able to self-start, make sound judgment calls, and create new opportunities for engagements • Knowledge of communication programs such as PODD or Touchchat is an asset Personal Suitability: • Initiative • Flexibility • Integrity • Excellent oral communication • Dependable and reliable • Organized and routine oriented Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check and basic First Aid certification required.
