I'm an
Individual
Hi there! I am an extremely nurturing, caring and bubbly individual who has a passion for working with children! I am seeking a stable, permanent full-time live out position. I’ve spent the last 8 years working as a full-time counsellor at RRSS, with four wonderful intellectually disabled women in their home. Some of my duties as a counsellor include providing personal care (hygiene, toileting, showers), mental health support, administering medications, prompting or assisting with daily living activities, assisting the ladies within their community and with recreational activities, performing housekeeping duties, cooking meals for up to 6 people etc. A few years ago, I also took on a second job as a Case Aid with the government, working with foster children. Some of my relevant duties as a Case Aid included providing transportation for children (utilizing the appropriate car seats and picking them up from either school or their foster homes), overseeing family visitations while ensuring the children remain safe and providing physical mental health support when needed. Prior to my work with RRSS, I worked as a daycare teacher - first with placement agency Scotia Personnel and then full-time at Kids and Company Dartmouth. My job duties as a daycare teacher were as you can imagine; aiding with mealtimes and accommodating special diets/allergies, aiding with nap times, providing personal care and aiding with toileting, overseeing outdoor play, facilitating creative endeavours, encouraging age-appropriate learning and socialization, monitoring children for health, behavioral and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents, supervising/participating in playtime, providing documentation, etc. I actually went back to Kids and Company a few years ago to work part-time ontop of my full-time job, not because I needed the money (I was taking more than half of a paycut), but because I missed working with kids and knew I'd be happier! I'm at a point now within my current employment where changes out of my control are being made that affect my schedule and livelihood, including having no choice but to take on extra weekends, which I am not interested in after the 8 years I've dedicated to the company. This has recently forced me to reconsider what I'd like to do with my career moving forward. I know I am my happiest when working with children and often miss the work I used to do, which is what has lead me to making this profile today. I generally make $65,000 a year and am hoping not to take too much of a loss in income with making this switch - I am looking for an hourly rate of 24-26$ an hour. I am also the aunt of a spunky sweet 5 year old girl who is the light of my life! I spend almost every spare minute I have through the week with my niece and often care for her and babysit. I have a vehicle (2014 Volkswagen Jetta) I have no problem using if needed - I currently use it at work to drive clients to doctors appointments, activities, on vacations, etc. I plan to upgrade cars in the fall as well. Lastly, in my current job and in my personal life I'm very big on getting out of the house! If weather doesn't permit, I usually gravitate towards arts and crafts. I love thinking of new and fun things to do around the community for my clients, for my daycare kids, for children I babysit, and for myself. In my spacetime I sometimes work as a freelance photographer and have been practicing photography for 17 years. This plays a role in why I'm considering going back to childcare, as I think a Mon-Fri schedule would be perfect so that I can book things like weddings on weekends if needed. Please let me know if you'd have any questions or concerns!
