Nanny Job in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
We are a young, professional and adventurous couple, with an energetic 23 month old girl, named Finlay. We are looking for a daytime care provider, for a set period of time: Monday to Friday, from July 16 to the 27, 2018. After this period there may be opportunities for occasional ongoing care. I am in healthcare. I work at CAMH. My partner (Thomson) is going to school for environmental science. We live in a 2 bedroom unit on the main floor of a house, with very large patio, garden and activity area. We are also very close the Key Gardner Beltline Pathway and Oriel Park. We have a medium sized and very friendly dog (Mabel), and a cat (Leroy). Finlay is energetic and enthusiastic little human, who loves playing outside, exploring jungle gyms, new experiences and new people. She is very confident physically (already rock climbing, and using scooters) and has strong language skills. She still naps 1-2 times a day. This is dependent on the activities of the day and how she is feeling. Finlay is at a stage where she is testing boundaries. If she is under stimulated, over tired or has low blood sugar she can become fussy and display aggressive behavior such as hair pulling and biting. This is always towards those she is most comfortable with (most often mommy). Our approach has been to take more of a positive parenting approach, rather than a punitive or disciplinary approach. We address the situation causing the behavior, aiming to limit the triggers, we use words to explain the situation and impact, and we constantly praise the good. Finlay loves food, and eats very well. Our only dietary requirements are that sugar is limited and processed food is avoided as much as possible. Our expectations for care would be that you provide a lot of direct and deliberate engagement with and stimulation for Finlay. This would include lots of discussion, questions, and explanation. Activities could include walks along the beltline, trips to the nearby playground & splash pad, and on rainy days toddler time at the nearby libraries. There is no TV in the house. Finlay has not had exposure to any screen time, except for occasional photos of and skype calls with family and friends. It is important that we continue this approach. We’ll do our best to set you up for success each day. We’ll make sure that meals and snacks for Finlay were prepared in advance, and that the space is well set up for you to engage with Finlay. We hope that the house is kept relatively tidy. We are looking for someone who is kind, compassionate, and able to meet Finlay where she is at. We also hope than when it comes to inappropriate behavior (such as biting), you are able to provide firm boundaries.
