One aspect that you may find unusual about my involvement in childcare is the fact that I am a male. Some think that for a male to be working as a nanny is a tad strange. I see it as a positive way to show that men can be nurturers too. Who better to spend time with a little boy playing with lego and doing "guy stuff". It may seem a simplistic answer, but the experience I've gained and the references of my past clients speak volumes. To some very special little people, I was their "manny". I have gained the vast majority of my child care experience by working as an in-home support provider for children who display cognitive and/or emotional difficulties such as ASD, ODD, ADHD and FAS. As an in-home support provider, my duties not only pertained to the children under my supervision, but to the day to day running of the client's home. I provided meal prep/planning, transportation, scheduling of appointments, housekeeping/laundry duties, interaction with therapists/physicians/educators and assisted with extra-curricular occasions. I cared for a minimum of 2 children to a maximum of 5, ranged in age from 18 months to 5 years old. Due to the varying degrees of special needs child care provided, I gained experience learning effective techniques in addressing the specifics of Autism spectrum disorder such as transitioning and substitution.
