Hello, my name is Alexa Bowley. I’m starting the Professional Development Program (PDP) in the Faculty of Education at SFU in September 2016. I have graduated from UVic with a major in Sociology and a minor in Environmental Studies. I just finished a semester at Laval University in Québec city, to improve my french! It was a great experience living and learning about the Québec culture and languange. I worked at CBI Monarch House as a Behavioral Interventionist until the end of December 2015. I worked with children with autism spectrum disorder, implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I taught different programs within therapy sessions for children and teenagers (ages 2-16). All programs were individualized for each child as part of their intervention that emphasized skills such as: academics, communication, self- regulation, personal care, play skills and social skills. I collected data and used reinforcements (preferred toys/food) to maximize their learning.
