Nanny Job in Montreal, Quebec

I'm an
Individual
My name is Amélie. My husband and I live in Montreal. We have a daughter, Cléo, who will be two this November. I work as a medical doctor in Puvirnituq an Inuit village in the Canadian Great North, for periods of 2 to 6 weeks at a time. My partner is a filmmaker and he works in Montreal. We speak french at home. As of December, we are looking for an a nanny to look after our daughter and travel up North with me. The contract would be for 9 to 24 months. We would spend 18 to 25 weeks out of 52 up north. The rest of the year would be spent in Montreal. Puvirnituq is a village of about 2000 people. The population is mostly Inuit. It is very cold during the winter (-40 - 50 degree Celsius in January). The arctic scenery and the northern lights are beautiful. It is a very unique place. I would say the most exotic place I have ever visited, and this is coming from someone who has travelled a lot! It is a very rare opportunity to be able to visit the Great North of Canada, as there is not much tourism and it can only be reached by plane. It is a magical place for those who enjoy the outdoors (hiking, kayaking, skiing, camping, biking, fishing, etc). The small scale and the remoteness of the village bring people together and we have a great social life over there. The people you meet in Puvirnituq are open minded and it is a place for fast friendship. Even newcomers quickly have a busy schedule (be aware that there are no movie theatres, no bars, no restaurants and barely any stores. The only way to travel out of the village is by plane). My partner does not always come up north with me. It is for those trips that I need the most help! When I am in Puvirnituq, I work from 9 am to 5 pm. I am also on call for 24 hours once or twice a week and one weekend every other week. Calls can be quiet, but they can also be extremely busy. The weeks spent up North would be the most demanding for our au pair. I would need her to take care of Cleo during my working hours as well as taking over if I am called in for an emergency. I am looking for someone who will be able to function with me as a team, pitching in for meals, errands and housework. The apartment we live in is provided by the hospital. There are three bedrooms and one bathroom. Life is busy and demanding up north. But it is also rewarding. We also have a busy social life up there, and our au pair is welcome to participate. I do not work when I am in Montreal. I do need someone to watch Cléo, but not full time. We are able to offer a room in Montreal as well. We live in two adjacent apartments. We have two bathrooms, two kitchens, and two living rooms. Our nanny would not have the exclusive use of one apartment, but she would have her own space. Cleo is a joyful toddler! She likes to interact with people. She is not difficult at all. As any toddler, she requires attention (constant adult supervision!) and care. I am convinced that kids need to be brought up with love and gentle care. I am a proponent of « gentle » and « mindful » parenting. Toddler thrive best when they are directed and supervised in a gentle manner. They need to be encouraged to behave well with positive reinforcement. I am looking for someone who will be willing to invest in a relationship with Cleo an treat her with kindness.
