I truly enjoy working with children and I pride myself on my ability to develop positive relationships with the children with whom I have worked. I volunteered with the Boys and Girls club full-time last summer and continued to volunteer throughout the school year. In my role as volunteer, I assisted camp leaders who were responsible for groups of children for a variety of activities including swimming, games, crafts and outings. I also helped plan some activities, such as crafts and games, reading and drawing. Additionally, I helped set up for small and larger activities, including running my own stations and planning games for kids to partake in. During the school year, I volunteered in the homework help room, assisting children with homework activities and completing crafts during free time. In addition to my volunteer experience, I have completed courses in Child Development, Individuals and Families and Challenge, Change & Society, all of which have enhanced my knowledge, understanding and experience in working with children and youth. As well, I have completed Nutrition & Health courses in grade 10 and 12, both of which reviewed and required safe food handling. I have also babysat children ranging in age from one year to ten years of age where responsibilities included playing with/entertaining the child(ren), preparing and feeding the child(ren) nutritious snacks/meals and following bedtime routines. I am an energetic, enthusiastic individual with a strong work ethic who is eager to learn. Additionally, I am a highly motivated individual who is flexible and adaptive to change and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. I remain calm in emergency situations. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and am able to work independently or as a contributing member of a team environment. I am punctual, reliable and am able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. I am currently enrolled to complete my First Aid/CPR certification this month.
