Nanny in Ottawa, Ontario

My name is Skyler and I am a 28 year old female currently at the University of Ottawa completing my Bachelor of Education, which will finish up in just two short weeks. I am looking for a family in the Ottawa area to nanny for starting at the end of April to beginning of May. In the fall my hope is to continue on into the Masters of Education program at the University of Ottawa while still being able to nanny full time. However, I am also open to more shorter termed positions. I have a lot of unique early childhood care, coaching and teaching experience, both internationally and within Canada, that I believe would prove to be an asset to any family I would be working with.  I completed my undergraduate degree in 2010 at the University of Alberta where I majored in Psychology and Sociology. Upon graduating, I moved to Seoul, Korea where I taught ESL Kindergarten with the Reggio Emilia learning approach for 3 & 1/2 years. In this school, I saw students flourish because they were allowed to explore, discover and express themselves in a supportive and rich environment. Experiencing children fall in love with learning, coupled with some reflection on some of the short comings of my own education, led me to the conclusion that inquiry-based learning is something that is necessary for schools to incorporate, and that I wanted to be an educator and be apart of that. But before going back to school to get my BEd, I headed to rural Tanzania for 9 months where I worked in an NGO\'s preschool. It was my role to act as a teaching advisor to aid the local staff in preparing and instructing creative and hands-on lessons. Although I found myself in a very different and trying set of circumstances, (such as, lack of resources) it solidified to me the potential and joy each child can have in a fostering learning environment and with positive teacher/caregiving role models.  Professional Experience: U of O Bachelor of Education Practicum - John Young Elementary School - Gr. 4/5 Class (March 2015 to Present) U of O Bachelor of Education Practicum - Convent Glen Elementary School - Gr. 2 Class (November 2014) Education Advisor - Food Water Shelter NGO - Tanzania - Ages 4-15 (November 2013 - July 2014) Responsibilities: • To assist the Tanzanian teachers in the development of their skills in teaching methodology, planning, time management, report writing, meeting attendance, staff management. • Fit out education centre with equipment and resources if not already achieved and develop resource/expenditure inventory process. • In collaboration with local Education Manager oversee the operations and smooth running of the Kesho Leo library, including organizing special programs with the Library Manager and overseeing the Library budget.
