I'm an
Individual
My name is Peter Demakos and I am a recent University graduate seeking a child care position. I have nearly 2 years experience working with children in a variety of different settings including camps, community centres and private homes. I also have extensive experience working with children with special needs. In my experience, I have consistently planned and facilitated a diverse range of daily activities, provided opportunities for valuable skill and relationship building and empathized and resolved in times of conflict (among many other duties!). In using each of these important skills, I have always prioritized recognizing the individual needs and situation of each individual child, maintaining consistency and constantly exchanging constructive feedback with parents and other caregivers. Although these skills and considerations are just a small aspect of the duties of a caregiver, I believe they are essential to providing excellent care. On a final note, I am happy to say that I have established excellent working relationships with staff and management at each of my previous employers, and I encourage you to contact me for references. Here is a brief overview of my experience so far: After School Program Supervisor, Central Eglinton Community Centre (Sept. 2011- current, Toronto, Ontario, ages 4-12) - Picked up children from school and walked back to centre for activities - Programmed daily activities for each week including a variety of active games and crafts - Ensured a safe environment by giving positive reinforcement, communicating expectations and enforcing consequences when necessary Special Needs Counsellor/Camp Counsellor, Central Eglinton Community Centre (May - Sept. 2011, Toronto, Ontario, ages 4-12) - Met regularly with parents to exchange feedback and encourage an inclusive and fun experience for each child - Ensured attentiveness and safety while taking weekly trips on the TTC - Initiated activities during free play that built skills and offered opportunities for new friendships Senior Counsellor/Inclusion Counsellor, Rainbow Day Camp (May- Sept. 2009, 20..., Guelph, Ontario, ages 4-18) - Structured daily activities around the individual needs of each child with the goal of achieving maximum enjoyment from camp - Empathized with children in times of conflict and critically considered the most constructive resolution - Kept parents/guardians involved by discussing daily activities and exchanging ideas for improvement
