My name is Mike and I am a post-secondary student enrolled at the University of Toronto. I am currently in the last year of my Honours Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Degree and have recently applied for the Bachelors of Education program for the upcoming academic year. I have worked with children for over 5 years as a Camp Counsellor and Camp Director. In my capacity as a Camp Counsellor I developed strong organizational and communication skills, as well as tools that allowed me to keep campers engaged in daily activities, while creating a safe and welcoming environment. I also work as an Education Assistant and love it! Sharing information with young minds is a joy and interacting with school age children on a daily basis is something I never tire of. My extensive work as a Camp Counsellor and Education Assistant has provided me an opportunity to interact with children across a wide range of emotional, physical and intellectual development. This in turn has allowed to develop age-specific communication techniques to ensure I can interact with children of all ages. I am passionate about child-care and education and am eager to apply and expand my knowledge while working as a child-care provider. I look forward to hearing from you! I worked as a Camp Counsellor and Camp Director, organizing and supervising daily activities and field trips for groups of children aged 4-14. During my time as a Camp Counsellor I learned to create an energetic and welcoming environment for all attending campers. Working with children at varying stages of intellectual and emotional development helped me learn the importance of, and develop, age-specific communication skills. As Camp Director I help to create and implement a fun and exciting summer camp program for all campers while acting as a liaison between camp counsellors and parents. I am currently employed as an Education Assistant at Black Creek Pioneer Village where I provide educational tours to visitors interested in learning about the lives of early settlers in modern day Ontario and 19th century history in general. I primarily work with grade 3 students and provide an engaging, educational tour program, linking the history of Pioneer Village with existing curriculum. I supervise tour groups, usually consisting of 15-20 students, and work with students with special needs and a variety of learning disabilities.
