Nanny in Langley, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
My name is Heather, I have been working in the ECE field since February 2010. Previous to this I worked as a certified baker at a catering company for over 15 years. I decided that I was ready for a change and a less stressful occupation, so I finally went back to school to get my ECE certification. (Did I say I thought this field would be less stressful ?!) In all honesty I love teaching preschoolers, and the longer I\'m doing it the more I enjoy it. It is the most interesting job I\'ve had, and the most humbling. I have learned as much about myself as I have on how to teach. I chose to work in this field for several reasons, first and foremost I love kids, which should be one of the main reason one enters this line of work; secondly, I believe that if we can influence a child before the age of 5 in a positive manner, and assist him/her to see the value in his /her individuality and to guide him/her to treat others with kindness and respect, that we can set a foundation that will help them through the rest of their development; last but not least, I think that I have a natural teaching style that works well with younger children ~ I can be flexible and adapt well when things go sideways; as sometimes they do when dealing with multiple personalities, wants and needs and I have a sense of fun and wonder that children seem to respond to. My personal philosophy to teaching; and boy has this changed since day one, is that there is no one way to teach that works all the time. Each child is so unique that one size doesn\'t fit them all. The only exception to this is that \'all\' children deserve our attention, respect and understanding. I also believe that children need to “play”, with teachers acting as facilitators, ‘guiding’ them when needed and helping them to treat each other in a kind and respectful manner, then our children can learn and develop naturally. Since finishing school I have continued taking courses and upgrading and am especially interested in the Dr Gordon Neufeld\'s developmental approach to teaching and parenting. I have watched several of his course DVD\'s; \"Making Sense of Discipline\" and \"Making Sense of Anxiety\", and have also taken his course on Alpha children. I have also attended several of occupational therapist, Marc Landry\'s seminars exploring brain differences and sensory processing. The main thing that I have learned is that we as Early Childhood Educators have an incredibly important role to play in the development of each child we meet. Our job is equal parts challenging, fun, crazy and rewarding. But I\'m sure we all wouldn\'t want it any other way. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Heather ;D \"While we try to teach our children about life, our children teach us what life is all about.\" I am a certified ECE teacher; I obtained my licence in 2010. I have worked with the ages of 2 -11, but my main area of learning is with 2 1/2 - 5 year olds
