Nanny in Thunder Bay

My journey working with children started at Circle Square Ranch Camp in 2004 up to today, working with First Nations students on various reserves. This has given me the unique opportunity to work with children from varying backgrounds, and have learned a lot from them along the way - foremost being patience and the importance of playfulness. In addition, because my lifes work focuses on enhancing learning for children and youth, I will show the utmost dedication in ensuring that my duties are done to the best of my abilities. In the summers of 2008 - 2011, I was employed by Frontier College in the Lieutenant Governor's Aboriginal Summer Reading Camps held in isolated First Nation communities in Ontario. This job required me to design and facilitate literacy-based activities, such as reading, writing, art and music. I completed this successfully, with the help of community members, as evidenced by the interest the children had for our projects by the end of summer and my continually being rehired. Little Acorn Child Care employed me in a similar position in 2007. The position required me to implement activities that enhance social development and physical health of the students and to provide space for creative expression through art, dramatic play and music. I was initially employed as an assistant teacher, and then later instated as sole teacher for a class of children aged 5 -11yrs. This was due the fact that I had demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity toward my work and had also proved to be self-motivated and responsible. In 2010, I completed an internship at Empowerment International (EI), a Nicaraguan based organization that focuses on breaking the poverty cycle in urban slums through education. At EI, I created currulum for and taught ESL to high school students with little to no english. This internship instilled in me the importance of self-motivation, careful planning, attention to detail and time management.
