I'm an
Individual
My experience in caring for children started at a very early age as a lunch monitor. I enjoyed supervising the children as they ate and setting up games during indoor recess. As I got older, I was an avid gymnast, and naturally, I fell into the roll of teaching. I started as a Coach in Training and eventually progressed to having classes of my own. I would teach children aged 3-12 in both French and English. Group sizes would range anywhere from 3 - 8 children. Being a coach, the parents relied on me to create a safe environment for their children and I was able to divide my time to each child individually and give them the guidance and attention they needed to be successful. It was one of the most rewarding experiences, being able to teach a child a new skill and seeing how proud they were of themselves for being able to achieve something they weren't able to do before. After that, I worked extensively with the older population in both a long-term care facility and a retirement home. I enjoyed my time with the older population as well. It was my duty to try to maintain, improve upon, or slow down regression of their physical abilities and I enjoyed having a hand in knowing that I was positively affecting their health, well-being and overall quality of life. I have worked with both sides of the spectrum and found enjoyment and a sense of satisfaction with both populations. Having a degree in Kinesiology, I understand the importance of staying active, and if you decide to leave your children or older adult with me, you can rest assured that they will be well taken care of, since they will get the physical activity they need, with someone who is gentle, caring and understanding. I was a Gymnsatics Coach for over 2 years. As a coach I had to: - Teach gymnastics to children between 3-12 implementing different teaching styles to accommodate for various age groups - Plan and design appropriate circuits and stations based on age - Reward positive behavior, demonstrate patience, encourage participation, and manage time to provide each child with coaching and direction - Prepare and deliver report cards evaluating the children’s progress throughout the session - Deal with difficult parents and children in a tactful, respectful manner - Perform minor administrative duties I worked in a long-term care facility and a retirement home for over a year. During that time, it was my responsibility to: - Instruct one-on-one and group exercise sessions to over 50 residents who were physically limited and/or in various stages of dementia - Help improve muscle strength, cardiovascular endurance, range of motion and overall quality of life - Provide input to physiotherapist on how to modify resident treatment plans - Encourage residents to participate in exercise program through highlighting their potential gains and noted improvements - Prepare paperwork for OHIP billing I am currently working abroad with the Federal Government as a Health Measures Specialist. After travelling continuously, I have decided to settle in one spot. During my time as a Health Measures Specialist my main duty included: -Explaining and performing physical measures tests on children as young as 3, to adults as old as 79.
