We're looking for someone to spend the summer with our kids! About us: We’re two working parents with summer-intensive jobs, in need of reliable child care in this second summer of Covid. The kids in question are our five year old guy and ten year old gal, along with two of our friends' kids. All four kids are kind-hearted, curious, active, and used to spending lots of their time outdoors exploring the natural world. We live on a quiet road amidst forest and lakes, with lots of opportunity for swimming, paddling, exploring, outdoor cooking, sports, gardening, etc. About the job: This could provide great work experience for a future teacher or outdoor educator, who is self-directed and engaged. We don’t expect you to entertain the kids, but to be able to initiate projects and facilitate their own curiosity. We’d like you to really get to know the kids, encourage them to take on new challenges, and even engage them in some of your own interests. We encourage you to promote unstructured play - if you can help them explore their world independently while you sit back, all the better. One of us will be working from home each day, and - if we’re being honest - it’s not a big house, and we can overhear everything. It takes confidence to take command of the house with a parent around, (even one in a different room, with the door closed, wearing headphones). Your tasks will be to make yourself at home here, structure your days with input from the kids, pull together lunch and snacks from what’s available in the kitchen and garden, help the kids tidy up at the end of the day, and keep us posted when you need supplies. Required skills: Must be a strong swimmer and familiar with water safety. Language: Either English or French speakers are welcome. The kids are comfortable in both languages. Time commitment: At the moment it seems like three 8-hour days would be ideal for us - two days with all four kids at $20/hr and one day with just our kids at $16/hr. We can finalize this based on everyone's needs closer to the summer. Ideally this starts the last week of June and ends last week of August, with one week off (unpaid) mid-summer. Pay rate: $16-$20/hr, depending on number of kids present. Must be legally able to work in Canada, with a valid SIN number for tax purposes. Location: Chemin Horace Cross, Masham. Covid-safety: This is a moving target, but at the moment it seems realistic to consider you a part of our household, set clear expectations for all of us and communicate really well about any risks or potential exposure.
