Nanny Job in Canmore, Alberta

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Personal Support Worker to provide care and support to a male teenager with developmental disabilities and a severe seizure disorder. This is a challenging and rewarding position with physical demands. The schedule for this position is flexible and negotiable, and may consist of working 4-6 hours starting at 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and/or some weekend days. In the future, it could lead to full-time employment. The starting hourly wage for this contract position is $19.10 per hour. Duties will be performed in the home and around the community, and may require driving the client to activities in Canmore (mileage will be compensated). Due to the nature of the medical disability, the client experiences significant variability in the level and type of support he requires from week to week. When seizures are less frequent, duties will include supporting the client as he: - follows an afterschool routine and schedule of activities - learns to manage his impulsive behaviour - looks after his belongings - participates in afterschool lessons - completes a neighbourhood paper delivery job When the client is experiencing frequent seizures, duties will also include: - physically assisting the client around the home - assisting with eating, drinking, taking medication, toileting, dressing - managing the risk of injury from falling during seizures - assisting with meal preparation, light housekeeping and the client’s laundry The ideal Candidate: • Has experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, behaviour challenges and medical needs • Is dependable, calm, compassionate and patient • Has a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and humour • Is a physically active non-smoker who enjoys walking around Canmore • has an insured vehicle and a good driving record • Is eligible to work in Canada • can provide a recent criminal records check (vulnerable sector) We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Personal Support Worker to provide care and support to a male teenager with developmental disabilities and a severe seizure disorder.
