My goals when working with children is to ensure that they are having fun as that is what being a child is all about!! I have gained my most valuable experience working at the YMCA-YWCA child car centre in Guelph. While working there, I worked with all age groups; infants (4 months - 18 months), toddlers (18 months to 3 years), preschool (3 years to 4), kindergarten (4 years to 5), and school age (6- 12 year olds). My responsibilities at the child centre were not only to provide supervision, but to plan and implement, fun, safe and stimulating activities for the children. I was also responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, feeding the children, implement hygiene routines (brush teeth, toiletry, etc.), and putting children down for nap time. I have had adequate experience in this field for I have been responsible for supervising up to 15 school age children independently, 10 kindergartens, 8 preschools, 5 toddlers, and 3 infants. I also enjoy working with children with exceptionalities. I have worked with special needs kids at the YMCA-YWCA as well as this summer (2013) I worked at Camp Kennebec for 6 weeks, an overnight camp for children with a wide range of special needs. This is where I gained my skills to accommodate and engage special needs kids in all activities while also implementing a strict schedule that leads to successful experiences.
