From 2005 to 2010 I volunteered as a child care provider at a women’s transition home in Orillia, Ontario. In this role I cared for children who were between the infancy stages and school age stages. I gained solid experience caring for children of a variety of ages at the same time which developed my skills in attentiveness to detail and awareness of the various needs of children at the different stages in their development. My duties within this position included: supervising and caring for children; feeding infants and children; changing diapers; preparing infants and children for rest periods; organizing and preparing for activities in arts and crafts and assisting the children with their creations; reading to children; playing with and interacting with children; and performing light cleaning duties. In addition to this I worked to establish a safe and healthy environment for the children and invested my time to tending to the emotional well-being on the children. My skills in working with children and my dedication to the organization were recognized and I was nominated for a Volunteer Leadership Award on behalf of the United Way, which I won, and I was honoured to accept. In addition to my volunteer work I taught at a dance studio from 2007 to 2011. I was a student who had 11 years of dance training and had established a central role in the dance company as well as strong relationships with the children. In my role as a teacher and assistant teacher I helped to plan for and deliver classes in Pre-Primary, Primary, and Grade One Ballet, and Grade One Tap. As a teacher I closely interacted with and developed relationships with children between the ages of 4 and 9. Both experiences developed my confidence and skills in working with children.
