Hi Potential Employers,
How are we enjoying this suffocating heat in Toronto? The British blood of my ancestors coursing through my veins is telling me to stay inside and seek out air-conditioned places. I will never understand people who enjoy exercising in the summer humidity; I feel like it makes them feel like they are a serious athlete and deserve public recognition. To be honest, I can barely look at them without breaking into sympathy-sweats. Give me a beach and let me lie out by the water but don\'t ask me do a 5K marathon and then Facebook about my accomplishments, unless we\'re talking status obits.
I am twenty-nine year old professional living in the city and hoping to use my (currently useless) degree in English Literature to find a job in publishing. I\'m currently employed as an Operations Coordinator at a dental lab consortium based in the upper beaches, with locations in Mississauga and Montreal. I also do some freelance writing on the side and have articles published in a handful of popular magazines and online webazines. I\'m an avid reader and enjoy talking about Woolf just as much as I enjoy talking about The Real Housewives of New York or if your child isn\'t so into reality television, we can talk about the politics of the friendships and sparkle-usage on My Little Pony.
My partner and I will be looking at starting to have children in the near future and I feel like I should have a refresher course in childcare (albeit limited) and wouldn\'t mind making some extra money to go toward a downpayment on a condo of our own.
Like I mentioned earlier in the summaries of experience I have a large amount of experience working with toddlers up to school aged children, as I worked as a swim instructor for years (in an after 4 program I helped to start out of Deer Park Collegiate which has continued after I departed in 2011) and pre-schoolers while I worked at a daycare in high school. I worked as a tutor for landed immigrants for three years while in University which many brought their young children along to learn conversational English.
I am a friendly person who loves to teach and share my love of reading and laugh because I find most things wildly entertaining. I hope I can chat further with you about my other qualifications and what I can bring to your family.
Please note:
Certified First Aid & CPR C
Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Certified
Bachelor of Arts - English Literature
Thanks and hope to hear from you,
Stuart Jeffery
Throughout most of high school and University I worked part-time or full-time jobs involving pre-school to school age children. I worked at an art therapy camp for children with disabilities and mostly enjoy working as a swim instructor, which involves maintaining a safe environment for a child to learn in. I have limited experience with children under the age of two and feel more comfortable working with children two and up. I have been responsible for teaching the same group of children (ages ranging between 3 - 11) stroke improvement, monitoring free swim and handling some lesson plans.
When I worked at the art therapy camp for children with disabilities, although most were sent with aides we at the camp were responsible for meal planning, taking them on excursions and coming up with lesson plans to keep them engaged and interested.
I have a young sibling and my mother is teacher so there was never an option to not work with children, at some point. I also have experience teaching newly landed immigrants English - three of my students also brought their children (ages ranging from 6 - 10) to learn slang, conversational english and idioms, in hopes their children would not have the same language barriers they face.
