Nanny in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
Hello, my name is Amy. I was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I moved around quite a bit growing up, but spent most of my time in Orillia, Ontario, until I moved out on my own at age 15. Since then, I have travelled across Canada, living in both Montreal and Vancouver for periods of time. I have been living in Toronto for about a year. No matter where I end up, one thing that remains constant is my love and devotion for working with children. Having grown up as a member of a large family (I have 8 aunts and uncles and close to 30 cousins on one side), I have grown to really appreciate the love and support that I have had since I was very small. There is definitely something to be said about being a part of a close-knit family unit, and that is something that I look for in any childcare position I am a part of. I have remained in contact with every family and organization I have worked for, and enjoy knowing the ways in which the children continue to grow and learn after I have left. I have worked in a variety of settings involving children; in a Home Daycare, as a live-in nanny, as a casual babysitter, as a Sunday School Teacher. Each position has taught me very different, but valuable, skills. I have worked with children as young as 8-9 months, as well as children as old as 10-11 years old, and dealt with a variety of religious, economic and intellectual differences. I spoke French with many of the children as well, and am very comfortable doing so. Personally, I am very interested in eventually working in Social Work (I am beginning a program at George Brown this September 2014 to that effect). More specifically, I would like to work in a group home setting helping abused, addicted, or otherwise underprivileged children and youth overcome their issues and reach their full potential. I spend a lot of my time volunteering and advocating for children and youth- related issues (where I am able to), especially through my writing. Something that I feel gives me an edge is that I am both young and also extraordinarily responsible for my actions. I am not afraid to get down in the dirt and build a sandcastle with a child, or build blanket forts that create a huge mess to clean up afterward. I am, in many ways, still a child myself and the children that I care for appreciate that. However, I understand the dangers of certain situations. I am not afraid to admit to my mistakes, to say no if I feel that something is unsafe or irresponsible, or to firmly act as the authority. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I hope to have the privilege of meeting you and your family.
