In my current role as a supply daycare teacher at the York Mills Child Care Centre, I regularly work with children of infant to preschool ages. In working with the toddler age group, I encourage good habits such as sharing, eating politely and cleaning; overall teaching the children of essential life skills. Through resourcefulness and detail orientation, I also prepare cognitive and sensory activities for children to enhance their mental development. In working with children of the infant age group, I am able to strengthen my skills of following directions and attentive listening, as I care for the safety of the children. Finally, by creating daily reports for parents, I am able to polish verbal and written communication skills. In my previous position as a preschool teacher to children of ages 3 to 5 years old, I strengthened my organization and time management skills through the set up of classroom activities and creation of a weekly plan for the children. Through supervising outdoor activities, I was able to develop the skills of ending conflicts between children, while also promoting safe play. Also I became a diligent worker with an attention to time constraints through the tasks of cleaning the classroom throughout the day, preparing the children for home, and setting up projects for the next day. Through this opportunity, I was able to develop good communication skills in multiple languages such as English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi by speaking to the parents of the children. Above all, I was able to broaden my knowledge of children’s activities and was able to experience teaching children of diverse backgrounds.
