I'm an
Individual
Hello! My name is Christen Rapske and I am a 26 year old recent graduate with my MA in leadership and undergraduate degree in communications. I am seeking employment in youth and child care stemming from my focused studies in youth and child identity development and empowerment. I have a deep love and commitment to children and youth, and deeply desire to see them grow into loving, capable and confident individuals who embrace their unique abilities. I honestly do think that kids are the future, and I welcome the opportunity to help parents in any way I can to build up capable, loving, fun, and vibrant children. have been babysitting since the age of sixteen on and off for local families and friends. I also have served in my church working with kids ministries and youth, and maintain over 3 years of unpaid experience working with kids and pre- teens in both church and volunteering capacities. I currently hold my non-violent crisis intervention certification and have a current criminal record check. I volunteer with youth organizations such as Covenant House Vancouver and most recently have come back from a 3 month internship with The Children\'s Organization of South Asia (COSA) in Thailand, where I worked closely with girls ages 5 to 17 who were deemed high risk for human trafficking. While in Thailand I worked closely with staff and the girls to build authentic relationships, spending time to build into them an identity of confidence and self worth. I also spent time teaching English and tutoring in school, played games and facilitating activities, preparing meals, transporting girls to various events and school activities, and organizing events for the girls days. Some of my favourite afternoons were spent playing games in the local pool and practicing swimming with the little girls. Planning games such as scavenger hunts that incorporated English lessons were also great fun! In addition, I also developed a curriculum for COSA that all future activities and work shops could be biased on in light of the girls age demographic and at what developmental stages the girls were at in their identity formation. The focus of this curriculum was designed so that an identity of self worth and personal empowerment would be build into each girl over time so that when they reached an age of independence, they would be able to meet their own basic needs and trust their own judgements. Since being back from my internship I am looking for full time employment in child care to continue my work with kids, help elevate the load of parents where needed so they can be the most present they can with their children when able, and to continue to contribute to the development of confident and empowered children.
