Hello, my name is Katelyn Wiersma. I have a strong passion to mentor and work with children. I gained experience with children at a young age when I began volunteering. I have been involved as a volunteer in nurseries, programmer and staff in summer camps, senior camp leader during an Esperanza Mission Trip, and gym class coordinator during a Guatemala mission trip (this involved coordinating events for over 100 kids). I also have dedicated much of my working life to kids. I began babysitting at a young age and was hired as a lead teacher at My Gym. I worked with kids aged 3 months to 14 years of age, some of whom had disabilities, autism, and ADHD. I am able to be compassionate, understanding, and patient with troubled kids. I am a trained active listener and volunteer for youth to reach out to when struggling with mental health issues. I was also Winters Residence Council’s mental health advocate at York University. My love and training in theatre allows me to be very fun and outgoing. I am an extroverted individual that kids seem to be drawn to. I have obtained my First Aid and CPR. I currently am completing a double honours in Psychology/Acting focused on the stream of child and adolescent development. I am available to work beginning May 2017 through summer.
