Nanny in Nelson, British Columbia

I'm an
Individual
Hayley Ratcliffe Objective I have recently resigned from my position as a StrongStart facilitator at Blueberry Creek Community School in Castlegar, B.C. I have held my position at BCCS since 2011. I am currently seeking employment in the childcare field, but hoping to find something closer to my home in Nelson, B.C. That may mean a private care setting where I care for your child one-on-one, or in a more formal educational organization. I am open to all avenues of employment in the childcare field. About Me My name is Hayley Ratcliffe. I am twenty-seven years old and have lived in the Kootenay area the majority of my life. I am married and enjoy spending a lot of my spare time working on renovations in our home, as well as gardening and exploring the Kootenays. I have no children of my own, but am very passionate about teaching and quality care in the childcare field. I have been a professional in childcare since 2008 and have had a wide variety of experiences within the field. Education Highschool Diploma -J.V.Humphries School, Kaslo, B.C. Early Learning and Childcare Educator- Bow Valley College/Prairie College, Calgary/Three Hills, AB Infant & Toddler Educator- Bow Valley College/Prairie College, Calgary/ Three Hills, AB Key Skills Patience Cleanliness Interpersonal Communication Skills Verstile Enthusiastic Creative Easy going Experience Prairie Christian Academy- Three Hills, Alberta (2008) Three Hills Childcare Center- Three Hills, Alberta (2008-20...) StrongStart is a bit different than a daycare setting because the parents are key components of the program that fully participate throughout the day. I have found this to be both a blessing and a challenge. It is my responsibilty to give advice about feeding, development, toilet training, guidance and really anything parenting related to families that need it. I have also organized bringing in special events for our families throughout the school year, such as Fire Safety Week, Policeman Halloween Safety Day, BCSPCA, Bear Aware, Public Health Nurse/Dental Health Representive visits, as well as several class potlucks. I have enjoyed gardening with students and teaching about recycling, composting and being environmentally friendly. Working at Blueberry has also meant I have had the opportunity to collaborate with other amazing ECE professionals and I am accustomed to working in a team atmosphere. Another challenge I encounter at StrongStart is the wide variety of ages that I encounter. The program is for children aged 0-5 and is drop-in. This broad age range has forced me simplify a lot of my activities. It has also helped me become comfortable with changing my plans at the last minute when either several children show up at once, or if I have slow day with very few children. I strongly believe in play-based learning. Over the years I have found Emergent Curriculum planning to be the most effective and enjoy the challenge of getting to know the students and their passions. To plan an emergent curriculum requires observation, documentation, creative brainstorming, flexibility and patience. Rather than starting with a lesson that requires a "hook" to get the children interested, emergent curriculum starts with the children's interests. If I had to choose a childcare philosophy that my teaching style best suites, I would say Reggio Emilia's philosophy. Availability I am seeking a full time position, 5 days a week. I can be available on week ends if nessesary (for nanny type employers) although week ends require an additional fee. I am fine with early mornings or working a little late into the evening if it is what the job requires.
