Nanny in Toronto, Ontario

I have extensive experience with providing full-time personal childcare, having been a nanny for multiple families with up to four children for the last five years, as well as taking multiple casual babysitting jobs for various families. In these positions, I dealt with behavioural issues with one of the children – who was 5 years old when I began with the family, and is now 9 years old – and have been able to develop knowledge and techniques to deal with this, as well as a sense of patience and firmness. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer in a local daycare in my hometown, mostly in the toddler and pre-school rooms, and have gained much insight into the planning and implementation of activities for different age ranges. I have been mentored by RECEs, which has been extremely helpful in my understanding of childhood behaviour and children’s needs, and have had the amazing opportunity to work in a one-on-one setting with children facing both physical and mental disabilities. As well, I currently volunteer in the pediatric department of Kingston General Hospital, which has been an exciting and eye-opening experience, and has allowed me to develop skills in taking care of children who are injured or sick. In my free time, I enjoy working at the Queen’s Medical School, and being a member of numerous clubs on campus – including as a committee member and volunteer for a community club called "Kaleidoscope", which involves one-on-one mentoring of an at-risk youth in the Kingston community. I also enjoy swimming, boating, animals, being outdoors, and music – including playing the clarinet.
