Nanny in Ottawa, Ontario

Although my experience working with children is listed above, I have worked with children my whole life. I have siblings who are much younger then me, and for much of my late teens, and early 20\'s, I have worked as sort of a Nanny for them. I not only watched them grow, I have also participated in their development. As a Child and Youth Worker, I have the knowledge of child development, and I know what to expect from a child, as well as what to provide for them. I am also trained in Play therapy, and know a plethora of games and activities, both educational and fun, to help a child grow to meet their potential. From 2006-201... I have had the privilege to work at Pineridge Children’s Centre in Arnprior Ontario. It was an amazing experience, and helped me to solidify my desire to work with children of all ages. At this children’s centre, I was an assistant day care teacher, and was able to help facilitate, groups with children ages 6 months up to 12 years. In my second year at St. Lawrence, I had the wonderful opportunity to do a work placement at the Katarokwi Native Friendship Center. This placement gave me the tools necessary for working with at risk, aboriginal children between the ages of 7 and 13. This was challenging, and I was able to push myself and learn a lot about working with children with a range of social and behavioural issues. I have just completed a placement at Immigrant Services Kingston and Area, working with a youth settlement worker. In this position I have learned essential skills and tools for working with a diverse population. I have also been able to gain experience program planning, for the weekly youth group I held, as well as writing case notes. I have been able to accompany my supervisor on many community meetings, one on one counselling sessions and professional development opportunities. I have also been given the chance to have one on one sessions with clients, working on areas that include: intakes, social problems and job/resume building. I have also spent a year in Bejing China teaching ESL, English Literature, and History to grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 students.
