Both children are very active so you have to be prepared to keep up with them. This is very important especially for the child with special needs. Calm and able to handle sudden (and loud) outbursts with a quiet voice and calm demeanour (very important). If you are a nervous person when a child has a meltdown or feels embarrassed over a very loud screaming tantrum in public or have the tendency to want to get the child to be quiet quickly as a first reaction, please be honest with yourself. This position may not be a good fit for you. A very calm and very quiet voice is necessary for the child with special needs and this may not always work. You will need to have a laid back *it is what it is* attitude some days. Patience. Willing to learn about Autism and alternative therapies/treatments Last Note Our special needs child is a challenge and the household loud and busy. She is also wonderful, very very intelligent, cheerful and happy, beautiful, and has a smile that absolutely lights up a room and would bring tears to your eyes. Our other child is adorable, intelligent, dramatic, a born leader, and the kindest child with the most giving spirit you will ever meet. Please be sure you carefully understand what you are applying for as we are looking for someone to join our family for the long term (2 years ). Thank you for reading this.
