Nanny Job in Oakville, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
Hello! We are a warm, friendly family seeking a compassionate, energetic and patient caregiver for our 16-year-old son who is on the autism spectrum. Despite his challenges, he is a generally calm, fun-loving and affectionate individual who brings a lot of joy and love into our lives. While the primary focus of this role will be dedicated to our son, there will be infrequent occasions when our independent and self-sufficient 11-year-old twins will also be present in the home and may require minimal supervision. The candidate should be comfortable with occasionally caring for multiple children, though it's important to note that the primary responsibility will always be our son. One parent typically works from home, so while you will have primary responsibility for our son during work hours, there will be an adult present in the home most of the time for any immediate assistance or support. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting families with special needs and finds joy and fulfillment in making a significant positive impact on a child's life. Our ideal candidate is someone who is knowledgeable, confident in their work, and willing to learn and adapt to our child's specific needs and routines. While previous experience with special needs children is an asset, we are primarily looking for someone who exhibits understanding, patience, and the ability to handle occasional overstimulation and outbursts with calm and grace. Job Duties Include: Toileting: Our son is toilet-trained but also uses pull-ups, so the caregiver will need to assist with both bathroom use and changing pull-ups when needed. Hygiene: Help with showers and other hygiene-related tasks. Enrichment Activities and Exercise: Engage our son in enriching activities such as puzzles, crafts and walks. He has a fun-loving nature, and our caregiver should be able to match his energy and enthusiasm. Our son enjoys swimming, so being able to accompany him in a pool would be a plus. Life Skills/Education: Work on developing his life skills and engage him in educational activities suitable for his level of understanding. Food Preparation: Prepare meals and snacks tailored to his dietary needs and preferences. Medication Management: Dispense medications as directed. Laundry: Handle our son's laundry tasks occasionally. Cleanup pertaining to son and activities you are doing. Travel: Must be able to travel with the family occasionally. Overnight Care: Ability to handle some overnights at home when necessary. Candidate Requirements: Comfortable with pets as we have some in our house. Quick on your feet and able to engage in active play, as our son can sometimes take off running and enjoys movement. Knowledgeable about allergies and cross-contamination, as he has very specific dietary restrictions. Non-violent interventions: Must be committed to using non-violent strategies and techniques for managing and de-escalating challenging behaviors. Flexibility in scheduling, as our needs may sometimes change. Long-term commitment: Ideally, we'd like to find someone who can be with our family for the long term. Trustworthy, honest and attentive: Your reliability is key, and we need to know our son is in good hands at all times. Current passport and ability to travel We are looking for both full and part time help as we need someone 7 days a week morning until evening. If this sounds like a role you would excel in and enjoy, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out with your qualifications and any questions you may have. Pay rate based on experience. We look forward to potentially welcoming you into our home and introducing you to our wonderful family. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified individuals. Please note: A vulnerable sector check, valid driver's license, First Aid/CPR certification and solid references are required for this position.
