Overall Provide stimulating and supportive care for our very active and demanding 4 year old daughter and our 17 month old while attending to the needs of the family as a whole. Job Duties: * Walk 4 year old to school and back every day * Walk to various activities (library, store, park etc.) * Plan for a balanced day, with outdoor time, quiet time and fun time * Coordinate play dates with children from the neighbourhood * Maintain a regular routine (i.e. activity, lunch, nap/quiet time, reading, play etc.) * Devise and execute on various types of activities: Quiet play – puzzles, reading stories, playdough, listening to music, drawing/painting Active Play – at the park/outside, swimming, Gymboree, dancing to music, making music Imaginative play – make believe play through imagination (e.g. talking on the phone, baking, etc.) *Teach various age appropriate information from life skills to more academic items Example of Life skills: cross the street with an adult, look for cars, red light means stop, personal hygiene, etc. Example Academic: learning ABC’s, counting, printing, making music * Support and lead children through various milestones (e.g. potty training, weaning, introducing solids, brushing teeth, transition to different beds, transition to school, etc.) * Prepare and feed meals and snacks for yourself and the children, including dinner (if needed) * Light house work as required and time permitting (i.e. washing dishes, toys put away, vacuum, laundry) * Work alongside parents and support the family unit as a whole (extremely important that the successful candidate can act as a support for the entire family) * Use a positive approach to each day, even when faced with challenges * Demonstrate patience and tact when dealing with challenges * Demonstrate a positive example for the children to model (friendly, polite, positive, hard working, caring, kind etc) * Provide a safe, warm and nurturing environment * Other duties as required Job Requirements * Previous experience working with a toddler and preschooler is required * Previous experience working with multiple children at once is required * Previous experience with eating difficulties is an asset * Excellent communication skills are required * Ability to work 8-6 with some flexibility into evenings required * Ability to work 1-2 weekend evenings per month (able to get home on own after midnight; paid additional agreed upon rate outside of standard working hours) * Full driver’s license strongly preferred * Criminal record check – pass * First aid certified * ECE is an asset * A genuine passion for children and teaching * An understanding of children’s needs * Non-smoker Physical Ability * Walk at least 30 minutes at a time * Ability to lift child (35 lbs) * Ability to play on the ground and move from sitting to standing while holding the baby * Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times per day ***ABOVE ALL ELSE NEEDS TO BE VERY PATIENT AND HAVE A GENUINE DESIRE TO BE A PART OF OUR FAMILY***
